Dr. Eileen McMahon Selected as Maine West Principal

Following a national search that attracted more than 50 applicants, Maine Township High School District 207 found the next educational leader for Maine West High School at Maine West. Dr. Eileen McMahon, who has more than 20 years of educational experience, was recommended to the Board of Education by Superintendent Dr. Ken Wallace and hired on Monday, Nov. 5.

Dr. McMahon is an exceptional scholar with a distinguished educational background,” Dr. Wallace says. “She is a past Evans Scholarship award winner at Northwestern and she was a 2008 dissertation award winner at The Ohio State University where she was awarded a Ph.D in educational administration. She has proven to be an insightful and effective leader in classroom instruction and feedback related to improving instruction. The most important attribute that Dr. McMahon possesses is her unwavering commitment to serve students in an ethical and courageous manner while supporting staff to continue to improve our service by creating a true community of care and support for each student. This attribute is non-negotiable for me. She is a humble, honest and reflective leader who has established trust within the building among her peers, as well as with the district leadership team.”

Dr. McMahon emerged from a strong field of candidates. She participated in three rounds of interviews, two of which were with a selection team of 30 individuals that included students, staff, parents and administrators from Maine West and the district.

Dr. McMahon is currently the Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning at Maine West, where she has been since 2017. Prior to that role, she was the Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction at Highland Park High School for three years. She previously served as the English Department Chair at Highland Park High School for two years, English Department Chair and English teacher at Bexley High School, and as an English teacher at New Trier High School. She also has taught at the university level, having served as a lecturer at The Ohio State University and a field instructor at the University of Michigan.

“I am honored to be selected for this key role and look forward to working with the teachers and support staff to ensure each student has the opportunity to reach their social, emotional and academic potential,” Dr. McMahon says. “Maine West is a terrific learning community and I embrace its high expectations. I’m excited for the challenge to help every student, every staff member, and every family feel that they are connected, supported, and growing every day with us.”

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Northwestern University, her master of arts in teaching from the University of Chicago and her doctorate in educational administration from The Ohio State University.

Dr. McMahon will begin her role as principal officially on July 1, 2019, however she will have the advantage of transition activities given her current role as Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning at Maine West.

“It is my strong belief that Dr. McMahon is the right person to lead Maine West High School into the future as we continue the work that has been done to improve access and support for students to achieve their highest potential,” Dr. Wallace says.
