Both Maine East and Maine West High Schools recently held Poetry Contests and named school winners who will compete in the upcoming regional competition as part of Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation contest.
Heaven Moore-Brown won the Maine West competition and will compete at the regional competition. Anna Tooley was the first runner up and Meghna Pillai was the second runner up. Congratulations also go out to Maine West’s first poet laureate Jessica Schneider for her original poem “Only Once.”
At Maine East, Emily Swoboda won the competition and will represent Maine East at regionals. The Maine East runners up were Rebecca Hurwitz and Bushra Khan.
The Chicagoland Regional competition will be held on Feb 18 at the Poetry Foundation building in Chicago.
