This message was sent to athletes and students on April 21, 2020.
It is our sincere hope that you and your family are healthy during these challenging and unprecedented times. We know that the uncertainty surrounding the spring athletic season is something that weighs heavily for each of you.
First and foremost, know that we are proud of the athletes and coaches who have continued to prepare for the spring season. It has been inspiring to see the problem solving and collaboration around these efforts.
At the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors meeting held today, Tuesday, April 21, the IHSA determined that all IHSA Spring State Tournaments have been canceled, and all summer contact days are suspended for the time being.
The statement also indicated the IHSA “is open to allowing spring sport game competition if/when the state deems it safe, and have placed no date parameters on that possibility at this time.” However, given the guidance by the governor on school attendance and the current guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the spring sports seasons in District 207 will not occur for the 2020 season. This decision is in keeping with the earlier district decision with regard to graduation, prom and senior awards.
While we know all of this is disappointing to hear, please stay connected with your team and your coaches. Lean on each other during this difficult time and reach out to your school or counselors if you need help. It is a sign of strength to ask for help.
We will continue to keep you updated with any additional information as it becomes available. Know that we are thinking of you and are here for you if you need anything.
