The Chicago Women in Trades Program is a tuition-free pre-apprenticeship that gives you training, skills, and points towards your union trade application. More points puts you at a higher advantage to be accepted into the union. CWIT (Chicago Women In Trades) offers two pre-apprenticeship programs: 1) Technical Opportunities Program 2) Women in Welding Program —
1) Technical Opportunities Program -Classes held two nights per week and Saturdays during the day – After high school graduation -Math Comprehension: Fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages, area and perimeter, square roots, exponents, feet and inches and basic algebra -Apprenticeship Entry Exam Preparation: Spatial relations, mechanical reasoning, and numerical reasoning -Physical Strengthening: Stretching, stamina, balance, endurance and weight-lifting exercises -Basic Construction Safety & Skills: Jobsite safety, tool recognition, tool safety, measuring, and blueprint reading -Job Readiness: Goal setting, interviewing, resume building, financial budgeting, apprenticeship application guidance -Hands-on Workshops: Learning basic experiences in carpentry, electrical, laborer, plumbing, pipefitting, bricklaying, and more instructed by experienced tradeswomen. 2) Women in Welding Program -Monday through Thursday (9:30 am–3:30 pm) – After high school graduation -Learns Three Welding Practices (MIG, Stick, and TIG) -Graduates with the American Welding Society Certification in MIG -Shop Math, Blueprint Reading -OSHA-10 Certification, Shop Safety -Workplace Readiness, Resume Building, Job Search Assistance -Post-graduation Case Management -Physical Strengthening |
