what is a school-based health center?
The Maine Township School-Based Health Center, which is located at Maine East High School, is a partnership between Maine Township High School District 207 and Advocate Medical Group, in affiliation with Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The goal of the School-Based Health Center is to improve the physical and emotional health of students attending Maine Township High Schools.
School-based health centers are comprehensive primary care programs, located within schools and linked to community-based services. They provide medical and mental health screening and treatment for young people who might otherwise not have access to primary care. School-based health centers have proven to be successful vehicles for addressing the challenges of adolescent health care. They are designed to be accessible, affordable, confidential, and teen friendly. More information on school-based health centers can also be found from the School-Based Health Alliance and EverThrive Illinois.
While the School-Based Health Center is located on the lower level of Maine East High School, it is open to and serves all students in Maine Township High School District 207. The School-Based Health Center is open Monday through Friday during regular school hours.
In order to be able to receive services from the School-Based Health Center, each student must have a consent form on file that has been signed by a parent or guardian. Learn more here about accessing care at the School-Based Health Center as well as fee and insurance information.
The School-Based Health Center is separate from the regular Health Office at each school that attends to students’ health needs throughout the school day and school year.
