Maine Township High School District 207 is taking a proactive approach to school safety in several ways, including by providing intruder training for all students and staff. This training is consistent with current research and best practices concerning how to respond and react in the event of an active crisis threat at school. As required by school law, schools must conduct an active intruder drill once a year.
On Wednesday, September 16, all students will watch an intruder training video and will participate in an intruder drill. Please know that the schools will NOT be simulating an intruder in the school as part of these drills. We are fortunate that local law enforcement officials will assist in the drill and staff including deans, social workers, psychologists, and counselors will be available to address any questions or concerns from students.
Any parents/guardians that want to opt their child out of watching the video and participation in the intruder drill should complete this form prior to Monday, September 14. The drill will be conducted during Advisory from 11:08 to 11:40 a.m.
As part of this drill, the district will utilize its reunification platform, CrisisGo. That means students will receive a test message from the system as part of the drill so they can see what those messages look like and we can ensure all students receive the message.
CrisisGo’s platform enables a check in function for students and instant emergency communication alerts in the event of an emergency. The check in system will be a series of questions like: “Are you safe?”, “What is your location?” and/or “Do you need assistance?”
This system is linked to student cell phone numbers. If your student does not receive the text message, parent/guardians should log in to Infinite Campus and ensure that if your child has a cell phone number that it is listed and that cell phone number is accurate.
While not required, students are encouraged to download the application that CrisisGo uses titled “Safe2SpeakUp.” If a student decides not to download the application, they will still receive text messages during an emergency IF their cell phone number is listed correctly in Infinite Campus. If your child does not have a cell phone, please know that in an emergency situation they can check in through by seeing an adult at the school who will complete the check in process for your child through Crisis Go.
