Dear Families,
During the summer, District 207 installed electronic key fobs on all first-floor hallway doors (including classroom doors) as part of the district’s safety and security improvements that were approved by the Board of Education last year. The upgrades are part of a phased-in process that is in the second of three years. This will allow the District to increase the safety and security for our students and staff in many ways, including having classroom doors automatically locked. It also will allow the administration to zone our buildings and better control access after hours.
What Does this Mean for Students?
The major change for students will be that classroom doors will be locked when the bell rings to signal the start of class. If a student is tardy, the door will need to be opened to allow the student access to the classroom. As we shared last year, attendance and getting to class on time is extremely important (and can result in consequences over time). Parents, please stress the importance of arriving to class on time with your child(ren). Students, please be respectful to your teachers and classmates and arrive to class on time.
Why Change?
District 207 is always looking for ways to increase safety and security. Last year we implemented a process to ensure there are limited access points to the school and placed alarms on all exterior doors for security purposes. This change is a continuation of that progress. Guaranteed locked classroom doors is a major increase in the safety of our staff and students.
