Artificial Intelligence

Use of Artificial Intelligence in District 207

District 207 believes Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers powerful tools to support brainstorming, accessibility, and research. In an effort to ensure parents and students are aware of our approach to AI, it is important to share that we remain focused on ensuring AI enhances, not replaces, the human connections essential to learning.

District 207 supports the use of AI for academic purposes such as brainstorming, research, clarifying concepts and checking grammar and style. Individual instructors will have different rules for specific assignments. Students should always consult with their instructor before using AI for any coursework.

We believe that it is important for our students and parents to be familiar with a few baseline guidelines when using AI:

  • AI work must be cited appropriately using the required citation style for that course.
  • If students have any questions about whether using artificial intelligence is permitted or how to properly cite its use, they should check with their instructor.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they use AI tools ethically and in accordance with academic integrity principles.

Unethical use of AI tools by a student may result in consequences that will be determined by the school.

We will continue to share more on our efforts in AI as we continue the learning journey as a school system. If you have any questions about the use of AI in our schools, please feel free to contact your student’s teacher or contact Shawn Messmer, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Innovation at [email protected].
